i'm back

Wow, what a crazy week! Waking up early and going to bed late have taken their tool on me. But I had a very fun time and meet a lot of new people. BUT. Yes, there is but. I have another tournament in April, 16 days away. And I am going to be planning for it. So please all forgive me if I happen to not post in awhile. I will make the effort to be on and post, but I'll have to see how that goes.

Savvy by Ingrid Law

Update: Hello, my blog followers. I'm quiet sure I am having a fun time but am very tired, and I can't wait to be home tomorrow.

I realized that I had only reviewed three books. *gasp* Being a huge reader I think I need to being doing these reviews more often.

Today I bring you the book review of Savvy, a sweet book about a family who have unique...savvys. ☺

About the book:
In the Beaumont's house thirteen is a very special year. Thirteen is the year that Beaumont children find there savvy. With a brother who can create a hurricane. And another that can summon electricity, Mib's is eager for her thirteenth birthday.

But just before the big day, Mib's father gets in to a car accident. Convinced she can help him, along with her brother and the preachers kids, she sneaks onto a bus that is supposed to be going to the hospital. This book is full of talking tattoo's, pink bibles and really cool savvys.

My thoughts:
I thought that the plot was very unique. You always hear of super heroes with super powers. But a savvy isn't a super power, it's something that make all of the Beaumont's unique. I thought the characters were fun and in depth. I really liked the main character, which is important in a story, and it has a sweet ending.

Recommended for ages: 10+
Bad stuff?: None.
Romance: Two kisses.
Recommendation: I would give this a five out of five. I would definitely recommend this book.
Any questions, thoughts, or comments. I would love to hear and answer them.

a bundle of quotes

I've decided to copy a friend of mine and do a post on some of my favorite quotes.

If any of you know me, I am very into quotes. Any chance I get I am looking up new ones to write done in a notebook. I really don't think I can explain enough how much I love quotes. They are like little bits of wisdom or humor for all to hear.
Henry Ward Beecher - "A book is a garden, an orchard, a storehouse, a party, a company by the way, a counselor, a multitude of counselors."
Oscar Wilde - "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much."
Isaac Asimov - "I write for the same reason I breathe, because if I didn't I would die."
Anonymous - "Finishing a good book is like leaving a good friend."
Audrey Hepburn - "For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you'll never walk alone."
Ralph Waldo Emerson - "A hero is no braver then an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer."
C.S.Lewis - "Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one.'"
Ziggy - "You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can rejoice because thorns have roses.
Anonymous - "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...It's learning to dance in the rain.
What are some of your favorite quotes? I would LOVE to hear them. ☺

Rowen

Hello, everybody. I would like you to meet, Rowen. She is the main character in my fantasy story. My dear character is a short tempered 17 year old human. But she does have a big heart for those in need. She loves the outdoors and has a pet hedgehog.

Thank you to:
- My sister Rebekah for taking the photo's.

- My friend Libby for giving me the cape for my birthday. And guess what, you can get one too, she sells them here.

So have you ever dressed up as a character? I would love to hear about it!

just wanted to let you know...

Happy first day of spring. Yes, today, March 20, is the first day of spring. The snow is melting, flowers are growing, and I feel so happy. But, anyway, I just wanted you all to know that I will not be on blogger for the rest of the week. Me, my mom, and my two sisters are driving over to Seattle for a speech tournament.

*jumps in the air very thrilled*

But I will not totally abandon you, my followers. I will be scheduling posts through out the week on really cool subjects.

So keeps your eyes open. And I will see you all next week.

Castaways of the "Flying Dutchman"

First, let me say Happy Saint Patrick's day. My day has been full of green, a lot of good food and the finishing of another book, the book being reviewed here. ↓ And being a really good book I had to write a review immediately.

By Brian Jacques, this is an amazing book! Imaginative, fun, and a thoroughly enjoyable read.

About the book:
The legend of the Flying Dutchman, the ghost-ship doomed to sail the seas forever, has been passed down throughout the centuries. But what of the boy, Neb, and his dog, Den, who were trapped aboard that ship? What was to become of them? Sent off on an eternal journey of their own, the boy and his dog roam the earth through out the centuries in search of those in need. Braving wind and waves and countless perils, they stumble across a 19th-century village whose very existence is at stake. Saving it will take the will and wile of all the people--and a very special boy and dog.

I thought that this book had a great plot. The beginning had a great hook and didn't get boring. Around the middle of the book I got a little confused but it all picked up again around the end. I heard there is a second one, and after reading this, I totally want to read the next one.
Recommended for ages: 12+
Bad stuff?: Nope. This is a very fun clean book.
Romance: No.
Recommendation: I would give it a four and a half star out of five.

Any comments or questions about the book? I would love to hear and answer them.

Bad Guys

What would a story be without bad guys? Well, kind of boring. (Although there are some very good story that wouldn't have worked with a bad guy).

Funny enough the bad guys are some of my favorite characters, as long as they are well written. There are many different kinds of bad guys I have found, (from both books I've read and movies I've watched), some of them are:

Power hunger bad guys: Such as Opal from the 'Artemis Fowl' series (a series I will be reviewing). This kind of bad guy is a character that becomes obsessed over power.

No mercy bad guys: Such as Culney the Rat (from Redwall, a wonderful series) or Capricorn from Inkheart. Bad guys who give no mercy and have no hearts.

Annoying bad guys: Everyone has there own 'annoying bad guys' list, and each one is completely different. In my 'annoying bad guy' category is, The Sheriff of Nottingham (from the BBC TV version of Robin Hood) is one of many I have in this category.

Oddball bad guys: I reserved this category for more kid character bad guys, such as the Red Queen (from Alice in Wonderland) and Cinderella's ugly step-mother. A (normally) jealous character that would not bring his/herself to kill, but makes everyone else miserable.

Secret bad guys: Now these bad guys are ones you don't know are bad guys at first. But, of course, their true nature becomes known in the end. I won't give any examples for this category, I would hate to ruin a book someone was planning on reading. ☺

Now a bad guy doesn't have to be in only one of these categories, in fact many are in more than one.

What are some of your favorite bad guys?

Part 2 on bad guys will be coming soon.
