Dear me how annoying I can be. Have you ever started, finally, writing a book and then a brilliant new idea, to a completely different book, pops into your head?
I hate being torn! Of course this ↑ is my writing pitfall. And the situation above explains and proves it. I always {and I mean always} have a beautiful brand new book idea pop into my head when I'm already occupied. It-is-my-curse!!!!
Okay, maybe I'm being a little dramatic but that is what happened to me yesterday afternoon at around 2ish. I guess I'm going to have to just stick it out. Of course who says I have throw away my awesome idea? Nobody! So I guess I'll just sit here, drinking my iced coffee, and add to my pile of randomly awesome ideas that are to vague to actually write a book about.
"The greatest part of a writer's time is spent in reading, in order to write; a man will turn over half a library to make one book." - Samuel Johnson

I have the exact same "problem". :) I think it's a good thing, though--it helps me avoid complete writer's block!
Oooh! I may have a solution to that...two, actually.
A: We open up a support group for this malady.. ;)
B: As I suffer the same exhilerating, exasperating predicament, on more than one occasion, I take a few moments...okay, longer...to jot/type down my idea, the scene that popped into my head at the inopportune time, to get it out of my head.
Two out of the four times in the past summer, it's worked...the other times...both ideas are waaaay too good to forget! ;)
I think we should go with option A
Meghan - Amazing idea, that would be so cool! I think every writer needs a support group. ☺
I have the identical problem as well. :) I think iced coffee is often the culprit in my case. But, since I'm not giving it up I just keep a notebook handy for new ideas. :)
I do Meghan's plan B every time I get a 'lightbulb' idea. I have a whole notebook jam packed full. It works! I can testify.
